Education

Flint Youth Theatre is committed to the education and enrichment of area students. FYT offers the following programs:

Flint Youth Theatre's Drama School faculty is composed of experienced creative drama educators and professional theatre artists from FYT's resident company. With small classes and personal coaching, our faculty takes pride in nurturing creative spirits while teaching practical skills for preforming on stage. Students will not only learn about drama and theatre but will also work on important skills such as concentration, self-confidence and cooperation in a group setting.

Our "Learning Through Theatre" Series is open to school audiences only. Believing theatre to be a dynamic vehicle for bringing history and current events to life, this series meets the needs of both educators and students by deepening understanding and enhancing skill development. Curriculum based study guides contain pre and post performance classroom activities to help teachers and students get the most out of each production.

BRIAN K. MCDONALD SCHOLARSHIP

While growing up, Brian was a student in Flint Youth Theatre Drama School classes and an actor in student productions. As a theatre major at the University of Michigan-Flint, he worked part-time at FYT and upon graduation, moved into a full-time position as promotions associate, house manager and instructor in the Drama School. During his years at FYT, Brian touched the lives of countless young people and many remember him as their “favorite” FYT instructor. When he passed away in March 1996, his family, friends and fellow FYT staff, established a memorial scholarship fund in his name at the Theatre and Dance Department of the University of Michigan-Flint. The scholarship is awarded in the spring of each year to a student who is both an FYT alum and a theatre major at UMF. Scholarship application and audition information can be obtained by contacting:
