The Acting and Dramatic Arts curriculum is designed to develop the actor as an individual artist and as an effective member of a creative ensemble. Each course draws from a continuum of specific techniques to develop the actor’s mind, voice and body for a confident and honest performance before a live audience.

Improvisation and scripted scene study provide fluency in the acting fundamentals of conflict, action and given circumstances.  As collaboration is essential to the creation of live theatre, the actor will develop skills of willingness and personal motivation, to listen and respond, to find creative solutions for problems as a member of a team, to confidently give voice to original ideas and grow in respect for the ideas of others.

These courses develop your internal and external resources for a successful performance on stage before a live audience. In Actor’s Tools and Techniques, you’ll explore the practical tools of rehearsal: stage directions, blocking, memorization and the ability to work as a respectful member of an ensemble. In Story Sculpting, you’ll explore how a story can be written without pencil and paper in creating original characters, dialogue and environments. In Fundamentals of Scene Study, you’ll work toward developing fluency in fundamentals of acting as you make choices regarding character, dialogue, environment, conflict and action. In Improvisation Comedy, you’ll
explore your spontaneous side while creating original scenes and dynamic characters through drama games and exercises.

Due to the nature of creating and rehearsing an original piece, prompt and consistent attendance are required.

Inventive movements…a willing voice…the desire to work together to create a new play from an old story.  These are the skills necessary in the young actors who sign up for FYT’s exciting story theatre class.  Working with a selected tale from world literature, an FYT artist will lead the class through the process of creating an original piece to perform at the end of the term.  Experience the necessity of teamwork in theatre as you craft the movements, animate the environments and ignite the words of a performance the acting company creates together.
